Foundational Information on Personality Disorders
This first of a four-part series is an introductory workshop that provides an overview of personality disorders to build a strong foundation for the remainder of the series. Participants will learn how personality disorders present in everyday functioning, different kinds of disorders, and how they impact relationships, conflict, and family systems. The training covers key diagnostic features, common myths and misconceptions, and the ways these traits intersect with stress, co-parenting challenges, and court-involved dynamics. This is designed for professionals seeking more information about personality disorders to inform their practice.
For Legal Professionals:
Attending this workshop will deepen your understanding of how personality disorders show up in litigation, conflict patterns, and client behavior, allowing you to navigate cases with greater clarity and strategy. You’ll gain practical insights that help you anticipate challenges, communicate more effectively, and make informed recommendations in complex family law matters.
For Mental Health Professionals:
This workshop provides a grounded, clinically relevant framework for recognizing and working with personality-driven dynamics that often complicate treatment and co-parenting work. You’ll strengthen your ability to assess, intervene, and maintain therapeutic boundaries when high-conflict behaviors impact progress or decision-making.
Learning Objectives for AFCC Lunch & Learn on Personality Disorders 1/9/26
Participants will understand how a personality disorder is defined, including differences between a disorder and features of a disorder.
Participants will be able to identify some characteristics common in personality disorder diagnoses.
Participants will learn how personality characteristics are assessed during a psychological evaluation.
Participants will know some of the reasons behavior may look like a personality disorder but is due to another condition (e.g., trauma, medical condition).
Participants will understand possible recommendations in psychological evaluations that address personality features.
Speaker Bios

Dr. Leah Osborn is a Clinical Psychologist with forensic training who owns a specialty clinic (Vantage Point Psychological Consultants) focusing on forensic evaluations in Minnesota. She has extensive experience in psychological evaluation, program development, and treatment in state hospital, correctional, school, and private practice settings. Dr. Osborn conducts psychological evaluations for Family, District, and Federal Courts regarding a variety of criminal and civil referral questions. Her clients have included adolescents and adults with wide ranging issues, such as trauma, problematic violent or threatening behaviors, social difficulties, and personality disorders. She is an active member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). She is known for providing thoughtful analysis and practical treatment recommendations from a holistic and person-centered perspective. For fun, Dr. Osborn enjoys playing volleyball, pickleball, cheering on her son in hockey and her daughter in cross-country running.
Dr. Mallory Jorgenson has a bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a minor in Criminology, from California State University, Fresno. She earned Masters’ degrees in Forensic Psychology and Organizational behavior, and a Doctorate in Clinical-Forensic Psychology from the California School of Forensic Studies at Alliant International University. She has been licensed as a psychologist in the State of Minnesota since 2016. She was employed with the Minnesota Department of Corrections, the Department of Human Services as a Forensic Evaluator, Regional Psychological Services with the Fourth Judicial Court as a Forensic Psychologist, and Alpha Human Services as an outpatient therapist. In these roles, Dr. Jorgenson has acquired a breadth of knowledge and experience in conducting various forensic evaluations, psychological evaluations, risk assessments, and treatment with individuals who have committed sexual offenses. She has also provided didactic trainings, supervision to psychologists in training, and given expert testimony in a variety of judicial proceedings.
Dr. Jorgenson has since formed her own private practice, Petunia Clinical and Forensic Consulting, as well as maintains a position as an independent contractor with Vantage Point Psychological Consultants. She utilizes her expertise to complete both clinical and forensic evaluations, assist individuals in the community with their unique needs, and aid the courts in the judicial process.
