Erin Guyette, MA, LMFT             Carol Hornbeck, MA, LMFT            Kent Kodalen, PhD, LP

As part of AFCC-MN’s ongoing mission to improve the lives of children and families dealing with conflict, please join us on Monday, May 13thfor a lively, interactive, and informative Spring Conference. To continue the exploration of Family Systems Theory (Tango or Tangled), we invite you to an in-depth and (hopefully) entertaining discussion about the good, the bad, and the frustration when it comes to working collaboratively with a family therapist to serve mutual clients.

Your hosts, Erin, Carol, and Kent, are AFCC members and family therapists who have experience working together with many different professionals in the MN family law community. Through personal accounts, case examples, and clinical demonstration, they will share how (and why) their reliance on systems thinking directs their work with these families. They will discuss professional team approaches that have gone well and some that have not. They will outline common areas where attorney/Court expectations are not in alignment with what a family therapist can do. Finally, we will end with a lively group discussion focused on creative problem solving to enhance our collaborative work. Please come add your voice to the conversation about working together!

Learning Objectives: After this Half-Day Conference, registrants will be able to:

  1. Describe where and when a referral for family therapy is useful
  2. Explain how a Family Systems perspective influences a therapist’s role
  3. Understand tools/strategies family therapists use to assess and intervene in family dynamics
  4. Identify common areas where family therapists and family law attorneys hold competing goals/purposes
  5. Identify common barriers to change within a family system

We invite ALL MEMBERS of the family law community to attend and share their insights. This is a hybrid conference, but we strongly encourage in-person attendance if you can.
